Broadstreet Blog

Up until today I was using BUEditor for editing this blog.  Functionality is fairly limited.  It seems more geared toward someone who is comfortable with HTML.  Now I've installed FCKEditor and this is my first post using it.

I had a phone call today that a site that I support was not available and their was a very strange home page. After doing a research, it appears to me that iSKORPiTX; does this sort of thing from time to time, every 3-6 months or so. I found one place where someone said he attacked over 20,000 sites in under 24 hours. So what does he do?

One of the things that increases your "Google Juice" is "Link Love." I'm helping a friend build a Web site about Trout fishing, called www.TroutU.com. I was explaining that Google and other search engines give high credibility to sites that have a lot of links to it, coming from other sites. He asked me how to get others to link to his site, which is a great question.

I installed three new modules in my efforts to get my blog up to par with WordPress and BlogSpot. I had several issues I wanted to address with regard to this blog. First, I wanted a tag cloud so that readers could easily find posts based on the tags. I also realized that Drupal's Clean URL's were not producing blog-like, Google-friendly URLs for my posts. So I added three new modules to this Drupal site tonight while watching the Presidential Debate. Path - this is a core module that is required for Pathauto. Pathauto - allows me to automatically set the URL and setup rules to automatically name the URLs. Works wonderfully.

Google Analytics is my tool of choice for viewing and analyzing site statistics. Here is an image from a recent report about Tyler Brothers, showing the impact of a permission-based email that was sent to about 500 Tyler Brothers customers. You can see that site visits doubled on days when the emails were distributed.

I've been meaning to do this for a while now, and finally took the hour needed to: - Install Drupal 6.3 - Start the Broadstreet Blog The intention of this blog is to share my experiences in learning to develop content-rich web sites using the Drupal Open Source Content Management System. My only experience blogging so far is with my pizza blog, pizza.wordpress.com, which of course uses WordPress.

I originally had a "slogan" for my site that was something like "Thoughts about Drupal and Doing Business on the Web." OK, but nothing to write home about. Then I thought of this one: Because there's more to life than pizza. Of course this is a reference to my New York Pizza Blog and the New York Pizza Finder. It really is a much clearer picture of why I'm doing this blog. I have really struggled with coming up with new things to say about New York Style Pizza.
