Broadstreet Blog
I am always looking for new ways to tell a story or communicate a message, and there is no doubt that video is a good way to do that.
One of my clients, a regional multi-campus tech school, recently told me that they are using a service called Biteable to make short explanation videos. You can see my first effort below.
Of course, Broadstreet Consulting is a subscriber to Adobe's Creative Cloud software, which includes Adobe Premiere Pro, and we do have the skills to make videos with that, but I thought I would take a look at this light-weight Web-based offering.
I started my company, Broadstreet Consulting, because I had friends with businesses who really needed to be online. The potential to grow their business using the Web was very high, and they wanted to be well positioned for the future.
In many cases my clients have been family businesses, many times with the boss approaching retirement age or at least thinking about it, and thinking about leaving the business to children, or possibly selling out for a comfortable retirement. Many want to pursue other passions outside of work.
In any case, the sustenance of the business was important, and continued growth was important, and so in these cases we began the process that I have started calling “climbing the ladder of Web success”.
If you’re building an online platform, you don’t want to miss my webinar series, The 9 Essentials of Web Success.

Our goal is to help you build an online presence that will increase your customer reach, brand awareness, loyalty, and sales. We are still in the early phases of the Internet and social media, and it is not too late for a small business to get on board and take advantage of this wave.

When I talk with people about their struggles in building a professional online presence, not knowing where to start and insufficient time come up more frequently than anything else.
I get it. If you do a search on Google for anything related to "Getting started online," you're going to find a million resources who are all very qualified, yet they are going to be telling you completely different things. It makes it extremely difficult to get an answer of where to start, and the time that you hoped to be spending on your online presence gets spent doing research of where to start and what to do next.
After months of preparation, on March 1 we took a new client live on Google AdWords. After 2 weeks, they called us and asked us to almost double the budget.
According to the business manager, this business had already made enough money to cover their AdWords expense. To him, it was clear to see they had been wasting years and tons of money on Yellow Pages. For years, YP.COM had been spending some money on AdWords with very little results and no transparency to what they were doing or what it cost.

Chances are, if you haven't already put in the effort to make it perfect, your business listing is loaded with inaccurate or old information that doesn't apply to your business. Sound about right?
It can be hard to show up the way you want to on Google. Google thinks they know everything, and it takes time to convince them otherwise! A lot of business owner's just don't have the time or the know-how to try and get it right. Not only will you have to research how to claim your listing, how to verify the listing (this generally takes 2 weeks), how to change the incorrect location showing up on the map, and the countless other things that could be incorrect, but then, once you've learned how, you actually have to put in the work to do it. And when I say "work," I mean it. Google is not fun to work with. It's a huge corporation with several departments and phone numbers that stay busy, and they actually don't provide a help line for Google My Business (this is what they call the business listings that appear on the Google Search Network.)

Don't get me wrong, I understand why someone may not have ever heard of it, but since it's become a necessary part of my daily life, I am truly surprised when I find people who are living without it.
As the Digital Marketing Manager of Broadstreet Consulting, creating and managing Google Drive is a MUST. It's the safest and easiest way to keep notes and organize files.
What is Google Drive?
Google Drive is a file storage and synchronization service created by Google. It allows users to store files in the cloud, share files, and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations with collaborators (also called Google Docs). Google Drive lets you work on your Google Docs in real time with other people, and store them in your Google account online — all for free. You can access the documents, spreadsheets, and presentations you create from any computer, anywhere in the world. (There's even some work you can do without an Internet connection!)
